World Trip. 2023 ...

The final stretch

Cet article est également disponible en : Français

Hello everyone!

I’ve just settled one of the last – very big – files I had to deal with before leaving. In doing so, I’m definitively closing a tome that represents 30 years of my life. A bit strange, but also so exciting. The future is totally unknown to me… and I feel a deep sense of joy. Doors are closing. Others will open. Homeless by choice. 4 briefs, 4 T-shirts, 1 pair of motorcycle pants, 1 pair of light pants and 3 pairs of socks, a pair of flip-flops as luggage (or almost …)
It’s about time … My liver is officially too fat …. normal for a guy from the south-west, you might say.
The bike’s ready. All that’s left is to test it.
The equipment is almost complete, just a few adjustments (and I’m not just talking about the pants …)
.
In short, until now, I’ve avoided thinking too much about this departure… But now it’s the home stretch. I can’t wait.
Any fears? Yes, of course, especially because of my age. Motorcycle travel is hard work. I’ll have to wait and see. And then, the day motorcycling is no longer an option, I’m left with Mister Pink … my 4X4, which will wait its turn … although … it’s just left me stranded for the second time in 2 months after more than 10 years of loyal service and over 300,000 km on the odometer. Maybe it’s time to find him a little brother. But I’ve got time to think about it, it’s not going to happen any time soon.

Anyway, here I am. This time I’m becoming a nomad for good, with no return date, unlike the first 2 times (which lasted 16 months each).

To follow us, 2 websites:

  • My fellow traveler: www.laventurierviking.fr .I advise you to visit his website and buy his film. He’s really nice (the film, not the man … well, if the man is nice, otherwise I wouldn’t go with him. But I’ll do a post about him soon 😉 )
  • and of course this one. At the start, the cartography section will be reactivated, so you’ll be able to follow us almost in real time.

PS: The photo illustrating this article is not mine. It’s of Hubert, a Franco-American who, once retired and free of all ties, decided to set off on a round-the-world trip in a sidecar. He traveled for 14 years before dying of cardiac arrest during a family vacation at the end of the year. His motto was: have you thought about taking a risk today? In fact, this photo was taken on Lake Baikal in Siberia. His story can be found on his website:
