I think I’ve finally found the way I want to tell the story of this journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Talking to the camera? Plenty of people do that much better than I ever will. Besides, it’s just not really my thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Making real documentaries? That’s a dream of mine. But I’m not there yet. I still have a long road ahead and a lot to learn. (By the way, if you’re interested in documentary filmmaking, I highly recommend the YouTube channel Les Artisans de Demain<\/em>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n What I do enjoy is sitting down with people\u2014and, more importantly, listening to them. People who’ve lived extraordinary lives, whose journeys have taken unexpected turns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This idea has been quietly growing in my mind for quite a while. So today, I’m launching a new series:<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Saltimbanque Conversations \u2013 Extraordinary Lives from the Ends of the Earth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The idea is simple: meet the women and men I cross paths with on the road, let them tell their own stories, and share those stories with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I’ve already made a few attempts\u2014three in Senegal and two in Abidjan. Four of them ended up being audio-only. The last one was cut short when my camera battery died halfway through the interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This time, I nearly had another disaster. Out of my three cameras, I lost all the footage from one of them. And with four people around the table but only two lavalier microphones, I had to improvise and make the best of what I had. Buying a couple more microphones has definitely moved to the top of my list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But this time, I made it. The edit is finally finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Be kind\u2014it’s my very first attempt, and it’s far from perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n
